Real Talk
Per the ADAA, over 6 million men suffer from depression every year.
And this is really just an estimate based on what’s reported. Statistically, men are far less likely to speak out about symptoms of depression or anxiety, and subsequently much less likely to be diagnosed and properly treated (adaa.org). There is an entire population of men in the world suffering in silence because of fear of judgement, because of the stigma associated with mental health disorders, because it’s not the “social norm”.
Hello, my name is Jennifer, and my husband is depressed. It sounds so very simple to say that, but the reality of it is so far from simple. If you want to get technical about it, he has diagnosed bipolar disorder with severe major depressive disorder that is non-responsive to treatment, ADHD, and PTSD. If that list sounds exhausting, I can assure you that living it can be downright soul crushing some days. And that is why I’m here. I made this page for me, as an outlet for myself to express some of what we go through day to day on this journey that is not easy and often times feels pretty lonely. I want a place to share some of our story, both the good and the bad, and to connect with other people who are going through anything similar. If this finds anybody who is struggling with mental health issues, or if you love someone who is struggling, please know that you are welcome here and you are not alone.
